Archaeology: An Investigation into the 1771 Colebrook Forge and Its Role in the Revolutionary War with Marc L. Banks

Join us as Marc Banks details the 2007 archaeological investigation into the Richard Smith Forge in the Robertsville section of Colebrook.  The forge was situated in an isolated location before Colebrook was even an official township. According to Colebrook’s Municipal Historian, the late Robert Grigg, “…this meant no taxes, no paperwork to be filled out and no one snooping around asking questions.  There weren’t even any roads in that section.”  Learn how the archaeology was conducted, what artifacts were uncovered and how the location helped the forge contribute to the American war effort during the Revolutionary War.
