The World War II Sound Records Collection contains 72 – 33 rpm phonographic records in analog sound storage format. The albums contain various recordings of the United States’ national news broadcasts as well as speeches made during World War II between July 1943 and July 1946.
Some recordings of note include Winston Churchill’s speeches; Germany’s surrender in May 1945; the dropping of the atomic bomb, first on Hiroshima and then on Nagasaki, and Japan’s surrender in Aug 1945; and the death of President Franklin D. Roosevelt; and Harry S. Truman’s assent as the United States president post WW II.
