Historical Pamphlets

During the 19th century pamphlets were a cost effective and important means of communicating a diverse set of attitudes and opinions of various segments of society not found in books, newspapers, and periodicals. They often addressed controversial subjects such as slavery, politics, culture, war, society and more. Pamphlets were print forms of speeches, orations, debates, sermons, treatises, tracts, narratives, poems, songs, memoir, legal notices, and more. The Simsbury Free Library’s collection of Late19th to Early 20th Century Pamphlets covers subjects related to the abolition of slavery, civil war, military, politics, culture, history, education and more published from 1854 – 1930.
