Amanda Orpha Eno Vail

A collection of eight letters to Orpha Amanda Eno Vail (1819 – 1891), daughter of Jonathan Eno and Orpha Adams Eno and wife of Alfred Lewis Vail, of Morristown, NJ. Alfred Vail and Orpha had no children together. Alfred Vail was the co-inventor of Morse Code and after his death in 1859 Orpha dedicated her time to restoring the credit due him for his part in developing Morse Code. The letters in this collection are from the following Eno family relatives: Amos R. Eno, Lucy Jane Eno, Mary Eno Pinchot, and Antoinette Eno Wood. They cover the time period from 1844 to 1884.
